When I download software onto my Windows 8, often there is an.msi file to install the application. When I double-click on the.msi file, I get an error 'Error while Opening File'. This occurs on various software packages, so is just not a bad download. When I click 'OK' to this error message, I get a big green button on the screen, with 'Download' in big letters, and 'ilivid' in smaller characters. I did mistakingly download the ilivid app onto my PC (once again a big green button on a download site that I thought was the download link to the file I wanted, however I uninstalled it once I read some articles online about it, also ran Malwarebytes to check for malware.
Try analyzing an install of the setup.exe and then compare to the install of your MSI and MST with the property set. Setup.exe with Vendor MSI This installation cannot be run by directly launching the MSI package This installation cannot be run by directly launching the MSI package.
Do I need to re-associate the.msi files with the Windows Installer? Any t help most appreciated.
Thanks, Bruce. Hi Bob, If you lived nearby I would come around and hug you. Thanks so much, that did it- now double-clicking on an.msi file opens the MS Installer. The funny thing is. I installed a program a few days ago that I had too download in portions (.cab files, as well as a setup.exe file and an.msi file). As instructed, I used the setup.exe file to launch the installer, the read me said that the setup.exe would call the.msi file to launch an installer GUI. That worked OK, just not when I tried to install an update which just had an.msi file.
So I could;t run the.msi file but the setup.exe could. Anyway- thanks so much Bob, you have been extremely helpful!
